Syria: Our project manager Rainer Brim reports on the change of power on the ground

A planned aid delivery of donations in kind for a refugee camp in north-eastern Syria has now turned into emergency aid for war refugees fleeing from the Aleppo region towards the city of Raqqa. Our Karawani Rainer Brim was on site and coordinated this aid mission, which took a very surprising turn for us.

A good two weeks ago, our Karawani Rainer decided to take the risk – despite the massive upheaval in Syria – and joined a convoy of several NGOs to help the 100,000 people who have fled the Aleppo region in recent days. Their destination is the city of Tabqa, where we are providing important emergency aid with our relief supplies.

In our truck, we had loaded several hundred blankets, tents, sleeping bags, hygiene articles and many other urgently needed relief supplies. Over the last few days, our team has been able to distribute these to thousands of families who have fled the fighting in Aleppo.

“The people here are very happy that the Assad regime is finally gone. But at the same time, they have no idea what will happen next,” explains Rainer in a telephone conversation with our chairman Pascal Violo. It is a difficult situation for the people on the ground, as uncertainty is now being compounded by fear – fear that the war in northern Syria could now spread even further. The Yazidi minority, who have already suffered massively at the hands of jihadists in the past, are particularly hard hit, explains Rainer.

‼️In order to be able to help the internally displaced people in Syria quickly and directly, we are asking for further donations, which we will pass on directly so that urgently needed relief supplies and food can be procured locally.

We are delighted and very grateful that Rainer has returned safely to Austria! Thank you to our Karawanis for this committed and courageous mission in Syria! It enabled us to convey solidarity and humanity to the displaced persons and victims of the Syrian war.
