Lebanon: Teaching in times of war
Our two schools in Beirut/Lebanon were forced to close due to the war. However, thanks to our dedicated teachers, it was possible to continue teaching digitally, albeit in a rudimentary way.
The classes were taught via WhatsApp groups using videos and voice messages; video calls were not possible due to the poor internet connection. Another challenge was that the children had neither paper nor pens at home.
However, the aim of the online lessons was not so much to impart teaching content, but primarily to be there for the children: To give them a sense of stability and security, to answer their questions about the war and the terrible events around them.
The joy about the current ceasefire was enormous! School director Mirvat immediately reopened the school and the children have been attending lessons regularly again since last week. Everyone is extremely relieved to be able to live a little normality again and hopes that the peace will continue.
If you would like to support our pupils in Beirut, please donate money to buy teaching materials. Your donation will also help to finance the electricity and rental costs and thus ensure the continued existence of our school projects in Lebanon. Thank you very much for your help!
