Colorful moments of happiness for refugees

Our Karawani team in Cyprus is completed by the creative painting room team – consisting of Ivana, Mahalee, Thomas and Till. This inspiring project is led by Till, who also runs the Pfullendorf art school in the Allgäu region and has been supporting us for years with the “mobile painting room”.

The painting room is a kind of “pop-up studio” with tables, easels, brushes, paints and high-quality paper that can be set up and dismantled in a short space of time. The idea behind it? To offer people space for artistic expression, regardless of their language skills. Free from any constraints, far away from worries, hundreds of refugee children and adults can come to rest and reflect for a few hours.

In Pournara Camp, the largest refugee camp on Cyprus, the painting room team demonstrated this impressively: in just two days, over 200 children were given the chance to experience a bit of carefree joy through painting.

The works of the refugees are often deeply moving and reflect the emotional challenges that many have to live through. Through the painting room, however, we not only create space for art, but also for experiencing and sharing emotions. These are unforgettable moments of peace and joy for everyone!
