A new spring in Afghanistan: when hope grows again from a dried-up land
A new spring in Afghanistan: when hope grows again from a dried-up land
In May 2025, we dedicated ourselves to a very special project: our Karawani Bruno traveled to Afghanistan together with Heiner to support the construction of a well there with donations, among other things.
The two Karawanis have seen far more there than fences, conflicts and isolation. At first glance: dry hills, hardly any infrastructure. But on closer inspection: Former wasteland is being replanted with the support of the German-Afghan aid organization “Ofarin” and once barren mountain slopes are becoming green and lush again. Over 70,000 trees – many of them walnut trees – have been planted in the last two years, especially in areas that had long been deserted.
The tree planting project also includes important educational work, which takes the form of information events in the remote villages concerned, where the benefits of planting are explained to the people: Shade, fertile soil, air to breathe – an arrival in a new spring. Plants, irrigation and small infrastructure projects are directly changing lives in this region of Afghanistan.
Here is the detailed project report from our Karawani Bruno for you to read.
