Hurraaaa – the truck has arrived!
Happy, relieved & exhausted – that’s how you can describe the current mood of the Karawani team in Cyprus. Because today the truck finally arrived with all our donations in kind!
Our expectation that the transportation of the donations in kind would be uncomplicated this time, as we are within the EU, was unfortunately not fulfilled. The truck arrived in Cyprus on Friday. Unfortunately, the customs authorities were not well-disposed towards our aid campaign and massively boycotted our aid delivery. This morning we were suddenly told that the truck was still to be x-rayed and that the delivery would therefore be further delayed. It is thanks to a well-meaning customs official that this search did not happen in the end and we were finally able to happily receive the truck this afternoon.
We then unloaded the 768 banana boxes, dozens of bicycles, wheelchairs and blanket bags step by step in a few extremely sweaty hours. From tomorrow, distribution to the refugees can begin with the help of our partner NGOs.
We are pretty exhausted now, but at the end of the day we are just super happy that the 9 tons of relief supplies have arrived and will bring joy to countless people from tomorrow.
